Re: Video / production definitions sources

I'm afraid I don't have the perfect single source, which is what i hoped
maybe someone else would supply. But since nobody else has answered yet I
can try to help a little.
One thing to check out if you haven't got it already is the Library of
Congress' publication "Archival Moving Image Materials: A Cataloguing
Manual". It includes cataloguing guidelines for physical description,
including generations (but does not give detailed explanations of the
latter) And it has a glossary appendix, which includes terms about
cataloguing, genre definitions, some production- related things, etc. But is
not anything like comprehensive for any of these areas.

here are a couple links from Kodak

 a 'glossary of film/video terms'
http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/support/glossary/glossary.shtml

and a glossary of video post-production terms
http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/support/glossary/post.shtml

let's not leave out AMIA who have some upcoming publications on cataloguing
practice and on videotape for archivists ......

Subject: Video / production definitions sources

Hello.

I am in need of a good general source for television and video production
terms and processes to be used as a reference when categorizing and
organizing video tapes. I need something that is general enough to be
understood by outsiders to the production processes, but in-depth enough to
be a one-stop source. Basically, something that will explain the
differences between a master, edit master, submaster, clone, etc.

Does anyone have a reference book, series, or a web site they frequently use
that you can recommend?

Thanks in advance for your help.
