[AMIA-L] Regional Audiovisual Archivists Interest Group
The Regional Audio-Visual Archives' Interest Group will be meeting on
Wednesday, November 7th from 12:30pm-2:00pm in the Eugene Room, and again on
Sunday at 11:00am to 12:30pm in the Portland Room. All archivists who are
responsible for preserving and providing access to audio-visual materials
that document the history of geographical areas and local cultures are
strongly urged to attend. The meetings' agendas will include current and
future RAVA activities, as well as general discussion about the role of
regional archives.
RAVA is also sponsoring a continuous screening of regional films. Clips from
regional archives have been compiled into a thematic program (the theme this
year being "Water") which will be shown at a viewing station in the Portland
Room all day Thursday through Saturday. In addition, a collection of
videotapes showcasing regional archives' collections will be available for
viewing.
On Friday at 9:00am, RAVA will host the session "Operating Funds and How to
Get Them." This session should be of interest not just to regional archives,
but to all non-profit archives, as it will focus on funding opportunities
above and beyond project-specific grants--including governmental support,
foundation grants and membership activities. Panelists include Francine
Lastufka Taylor from the Alaska Moving Image Preservation Association,
Joseph Durr of the Oregon Historical Society and Tom Clareson from OCLC.
Regional archivists who cannot attend the Portland conference should contact
Dwight Swanson [dwight@xxxxxxxxxxx] or Karen Glynn [karen.glynn@xxxxxxxx]
for meeting minutes and session notes.
