Archive.
FILM CATALOGER
Fulltime, permanent, full benefits, salary commensurate with
experience.
The Academy Film Archive is located in Los Angeles, CA and is an

DUTIES
Supervise cataloging department. Manage and lead training on
the archive’s database, MAVIS (Merged Audio Visual Information
Systems). Lead the development, expansion, and evolution of MAVIS
for the archive. Develop new cataloging standards and a detailed
cataloging manual. Liaison with information systems department,
Wizard Information Services (the author of MAVIS), and other Archival
institutions utilizing the database around the world. Catalog film
and videotape materials. Enhance current cataloging records. Film
research. Write department budgets and reports.
REQUIRED
Masters of Library and Information Science or equivalent professional
experience. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working
relationships with Academy staff, visitors and fellow catalogers at other
archives and institutions. Extensive knowledge of computer databases and
new technologies. Use of word processing software. Ability to compose
correspondence and reports. Ability to train others in use of
databases.
PREFERRED
Two years experience at FIAF-member Film Archive. Knowledge of film
and videotape elements. Completion of Bachelor or graduate-degree study
of film history. Experience in film documentation research.
Willingness to learn SQL Plus for reporting in MAVIS. Fluency in
second language.
