Re: [AMIA-L] Floor Covering for vault
i don't know if anyone's evaluated this product or not, but my husband and i
used a product called 'marmoleum' from forbo on the kitchen & bedroom floors
of our "green" house. it's a recycled content, cork-based product, and it
has virtually no volatile organic compounds to off-gas. they've got more
information at www.forbo-industries.com/.
all that AND it comes in great colors. check out 'asian tiger'. --lynn

Seems to me that it is a well known fact that the glues used in
manufacturing chipboard will accelerate VS in film. The chemicals in vinyl
floor coverings are likely to be even worse for archival materials, and the
glues to fix the vinyl to the chipboard definitely have a catastrophic
impact on archival film materials.
Go with the expert here, chip out the floor to put in the rails - there
really is no safe alternative if you still want to have any worthwhile
materials in your vault after only a few years.
