[AMIA-L] Announcing the Slapsticon film fest!



 Hello to all you slapstick comedy fans out there!
 We are pleased to announce that the Slapsticon
 comedy film fest in the Washington, DC / VA area is
set for July 11-14, 2003, so mark your calendars. You
have a years' notice!!!!!

The Slapsticon Festival is dedicated to the obscure,
forgotten, overlooked, and rarely shown
comedians of the silent and early sound era. There may
be a Chaplin or Keaton in the bunch, but
for the most part, these are wonderful shorts and
a few features that for the most part go unseen
today.

 The film program has not been finalized as of yet,
 but the itinerary is as follows.........

 Thursday, July 11
  The Spectrum Theatre, Arlington, VA

1.  Small gauge screenings, including rare 8mm
 and (hopefully) 9.5 mm prints.
2.  Collectors choice screenings! Bring your fave

 8/9.5/16mm print to be screened. The more oddball,
the better! For the hardcore comedy fan!

 Friday, July 12,
 Venue to be announced later. Washington, DC.

 A screening of rare 35mm prints will be screened,
including many silents and early talkies.
Live piano accompaniment scheduled. (Limited seating)

 Saturday, July 13,
 The Spectrum Theatre, Arlington, VA

 All day and night 16mm screenings!!!!
 Live old style jazz band to accompany Saturday
 evening shorts!

 Sunday afternoon, July 14
 The Spectrum Theatre, Arlington, VA
 More 16mm screenings for those diehards who can't
 seem to get enough slapstick!!!!!

 Tentatively scheduled...............
 John Bunny, WC fields, Chaplin, Pokes and Jabs,
 Georgie Price, Keaton, Charlie Bowers, Moran and
Mack, Lige Conley, Karl Dane and George K.Arthur,
 Slim Summerville, Thelma Todd and Zasu pitts, Wheeler
and Woolsey, Clark and McCullough,
Raymond Griffith, Billy Franey, Loyd Hamilton,
Billy Ritchie, Flip the Frog, Censored comedy cuts
reel, and a rare Pat and Patachon (Scandanavian
Laurel and Hardy types) print from the Danish film
Institute.

Anyone, collectors or archivists, are encouraged to
contribute to the lineup of films, particularly the
9.5mm prints. Hotel information and admission rates
will be announced soon. Hope to see all  you early
comedy film enthusiasts there!!!
