Are you sure you're not thinking of "Goof Off" -- which does smell bad. I believe Goo-Gone is orange-oil based, and smells ok.


   Several years ago, I discovered that it works excellently on films:
no
fumes, no residue, no chemical interaction with the film.  In short,
it's a
great tool for collector and archivist.

Are you using it as a spot solvent, to get off tape and sticky stuff, or for entire rolls of film? I'd be very nervous about using an untested solvent on any materials of importance.

Then again, with some (like HFE) film cleaning solvents costing over
$100 per gallon, a good substitute would be nice.  Anyone used the
hydronaptha (sp?) that Kodak says is the best thing since trichlor?
