[AMIA-L] Bewitched from the original black and white era
This is a tad on the fluffier side of things, but
since I am an avid follower of preserving things as
close to the original as possible, I have been puzzled
by something regarding the recent releases of the
Bewitched episodes from the black and white era.
Forgive my nick-picking, but if someone can explain
this one, I would love to hear it: My query is why the
opening theme of the black and white episodes has been
taken from the color episodes of 1966 ("Copyright
MCMLXVI" appears on the bottom), and then "grayscaled"
to appear original. For those Bewitched experts who
know what I'm talking about, the original opening
shows the date "Copyright MCMLXIV" or 1964, and the
cartoon Samantha is a big larger in appearance, has
darker hair, and the kitchen features cupboards to the
right of the stove, whereas the 1966 opening does not.
The cat in the 1964 opening is also white, instead of
black.
Although I know this is far beyond a serious issue, it
does relate to preserving the moving image as close to
the original as possible, and I am just curious why
the original openings have been discarded.
