Title: Re: [AMIA-L] footage of kkk parade in washington dc
Hi:

We have a 3 minute clip of the KKK Washington demonstration in 1925. Here is the description:

Ku Klux Klan
KKK parade in Washington - mass of people with flags.  Top shot parade.  Members march in shape of Cross. Marchers pass with banners “ Rhode Island Convention “.  Float past with Miss 100% America.  Klan with huge American flag.

Best,

Charlie

Hello,

The film in question may be the KKK rally in Washington DC held in 1925.
I came across a newspaper article a few months ago that stated there was a huge (not sure if it was the first ever, maybe) march/demonstration/gathering in Washington DC in 1925.
Also there were related marches/gatherings the same week/day in other parts of the country.

Hope this helps you with your inquirer.
I may be able to look up the exact date with a little research. (Do a goggle search and see what you come up with...such as     KKK  1925 Washington DC.)

Subject: [AMIA-L] footage of kkk parade in washington dc

Hi everyone,
today one of my colleagues was watching a silent, nitrate newsreel and one of the items was about a very big KKK parade in Washington DC. According to the intertitle (in Dutch) they were parading with their hoods tilted, deliberately uncovering their faces (there is a closer shot of a group of 3 or 4 people marching, where you can see this).
It looks like this footage is from around 1922-1923. You can see the Capitol Hill in the background. Maybe someone could help us to find out the exact date of this event?
We also wondered if this kind of footage is already known to be around, or if there would be historical interest for this footage in the US?
