Hi, AMIA readers...
Happy New Year!
I'm trying to find a 35mm, 16mm, (letterbox?) videotape or DVD of MGM's "tick... tick... tick..." we can obtain for appropriately licensed presentation during an locally-shot films series at the the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council in Marysville.
This is in part to salvage the series premiere on unexpectedly short notice, and at the same time give the series a good kick-off with a film that was shot in Yuba-Sutter and Colusa Counties and released 37 years ago this month.
Produced in the summer of 1969, it was released in January of 1970. Jan. 9th, 1970 according to IMDB. Jan. 21 at a Philadelphia, PA Premiere according to Turner Classic Movies website.
Our problem: Finding a copy.
A couple of months ago, I learned from Chris Chouinard at MGM's booking office in LA that we could show the film for $250 or 35% of the gross, whichever is higher. (Gross to mean the ticket sales.)
At the time, Chris checked and said that MGM has no film print. Well, we have no film projection at the auditorium, but can project video from tape or DVD.
Chris said under those circumstances, MGM might be able to license us showing from DVD if they have the DVD rights.
I don't believe it was ever released on DVD, and a search for that or a VHS copy on ebay and elsewhere hasn't been productive.
I plan to ask Chris whether a print or other type of copy might be lodged with the MGM TV syndication folks (if that's still a part of the MGM he's a part of.)
Turner Classic Movies UK appears to have it scheduled for March 1 at 19:00 hours (7 p.m.) so it is possible that there's a copy in some form at Turner here in the States.
If a 35mm copy is available, I believe we can arrange a showing at a local theater. 16mm I can arrange to do with projectors at the Arts Council auditorium.
It's originally 2:35:1 Panavision anamorphic so a 35mm print would be the best presentation
If someone has a copy and we can arrange the appropriate usage and licensing, I'd be grateful to know that.
Or if someone has other suggestions.
Thanks,
Ted.
