Dear List, We received a donation of multiple film
stills from the production “Show Boat” from 1929. I am trying to
procure a viewing copy in any format available of the film, for the purpose of cataloguing
said stills. I can screen 16mm (trained projectionist), laserdisc, DVD and VHS.
If you wish to stream it at very low quality, it would suffice. It is my understanding that it’s
been shown on TCM, and that it exists in semi-complete form in the _Complete Show Boat_ laserdisc, which I
cannot find in From what my meager research has turned
up, the stills we were given anonymously contain some scenes not in the extant
film copies. In particular, there is a shot of Joe and Queenie (the two main
African-American actors in the film) as an introductory scene for the film (It
is numbered as shot 1). I am indeed aware of the existence of the prologue
comprised of shots from the Broadway musical, and am positive they’re not
from that. I would gladly pay for shipping, and
return shipping if necessary, although I cannot pay any rental fee for a copy. Once catalogued, these stills will become
available to the general public at http://movingimage.us/site/collection/index.html
in case you need an incentive to make the film available to me! Feel free to
watermark screening copies if needed. Thank you in advance for your time, Natalia NATALIA
