The problem with most lab stirrers, like the one Roberta found at
<http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=243964609> is that
they use a little piece of plastic-coated iron which is spun around by a
magnet in the base. These work great liquids, but will stop moving very
quickly with paste. I have used them to get Methylcellose well dispresed in
hot water and then add the cold while it's still stirring. Eliminates
lumps, but once it gels they stop...
