Re: [BKARTS] procion dyes redux
As a fiber dyer for 10plus years I fully agree with not mixing colors outside (don't ask me how I know <g>). When mixing colors I've found the best method to avoid the migration of dye powders is to spread out damp newspaper on my work surface (obviously away from air conditioners & fans), put on a pair of disposable gloves to avoid dyeing myself, and slowly spoon out the dyes into a vessel to mix them. When finished I remove the gloves inside out, fold them up in the newspaper and dispose of properly. No mess. Some dyers I know wear OSHA filtrating masks, not the disposable ones which do nothing to filter out the particles, but I don't figuring if I'm careful, use dedicated equipment and keep this stuff away from my pets, I'll survive. Now, natural dyestuffs is a whole other ballgame - stinky & noxious - best done outside on a camp stove <g>.
