[BKARTS] Derge Printing House featured in talk, Portland Oregon
For those coming to Portland, Oregon, for GBW Standards, here's a
program that may be of interest --
Northwest China Council will be presenting a slide show and
travelogue of their 2005 trip to eastern Tibetan plateau, featuring
visits to the Derge Printing house and other places.
Derge Printing House is the largest, and oldest, printer of Tibetan-
Buddhist sutras using woodblock technology and some very interesting
printing methods. There will be some pictures of papermaking and also
of the building, an impressive, rambling, temple-like structure with
an immense woodblock archive.
This is part of the regular lineup of programs by the China Council,
and is not just focused on printing or books, but if you plan on
going, please let me know. I will give them a heads up that there's
special interest on that.
At the same talk, will also be a preview/slideshow of next year
trip's along the Silk Road, including Dunhuang's Mogao Grottoes
(where the Diamond Sutra was discovered), Yulin Grottoes, Bezeklik
Caves, all famous for their Buddhist murals dating from 4th century
through 14-15th century.
When: Wednesday, October 26, 7 PM
Where: House of Louie Meeting Room, 331 NW Davis, Chinatown
Cost: NWCC members $3; $5 general.
