Hedi Kyle will be teaching a two-day workshop on March 25th and 26th at
Craft Alliance in St Louis. Read below for more information, or visit the
description at their website:

The Content, Form and Construction of Books
Enrollment is limited to 12 students, all levels. As versatile containers and
packaging devices, books accommodate all sorts of texts, images, and even
objects. Their intriguing mechanical function arouses one's curiosity to explore
form and construction. This workshop is all about the relationship of content,
form and construction. With many samples on hand, Hedi will lead you through
an examination of why some structural features work better than others and she
will help you evaluate and practice essential skills. You will be able to
create book structures that can display, protect, and enhance a variety of
materials and objects. Please collect and bring items that inspire your book works;
decorative papers, text, drawings, candy wrappers, ticket stubs, photos, bits
of ribbon and small flat objects. Hedi is appreciated for her inventive
structures and seemingly boundless creativity. Come and be inspired and informed: as
a group you will generate ideas and, consequently, unique books.
Hedi Kyle thinks of her books as liberated objects that have escaped their
expected function but still reflect the intrinsic character of the tradition.
She recently retired as Head Conservator at the American Philosophical Society
and is adjunct Professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia where
she teaches book structures in the graduate Book Arts and Printmaking Program.
Kyle graduated from the Werk-Kunst Schule in Wiesbaden, Germany and is
co-founder of Paper and Book Intensive. She has been giving workshops in the US,
Canada and Switzerland for over 20 years and her one-of-a-kind constructions
have been exhibited internationally.
Please note that we cannot accept on-line registration less than three (3)
days prior to the first day of class. After that date you will need to call,
fax, or stop by the office during normal business hours to register for your
class.
