[BKARTS] APHA Conference "Atlantic World of Print in the Age of Franklin"

APHA is pleased to announce that it will be meeting in Philadelphia 
to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Franklin. 
This year's APHA conference will be held in conjunction with the 
conference "The Atlantic World of Print in the Age of Franklin," 
sponsored by the McNeill Center of the University of Pennsylvania and 
the Library Company of Philadelphia. The conference runs from 
Thursday evening September 28th until Saturday evening September 30, and will

be held at the University of Pennsylvania, the Historical Society of 
Pennsylvania, and the Library Company of Philadelphia. In particular, 
Saturday will be packed with talks on printing history and book history.

The conference will be entirely free. Unlike most of our conferences, 
"The Atlantic World of Print in the Age of Franklin" has been planned 
to be more like a large college seminar, with comment and discussion, 
rather than as a series of illustrated talks. To maximize time for thought and

discussion, the papers will be available *before* the conference to 
read. Speakers will present summaries and a commentator will remark 
on the papers, and then discussion will be open to the floor. We hope 
that this format will bring more opportunities for thoughtful 
questions for some of

this country's leading scholars.

Registrants will be able to download copies of all papers from a 
private website. For members without internet access, photocopies 
sets will be available at registration.

Also, mark your calendars: the 2007 Lieberman Laureate will be held 
Wednesday October 25, 2007 at Princeton University, where Henry 
Morris of Bird & Bull Press will speak on the importance of 
papermaking history to printing history. More information will be on
