A reminder for you poets out there, the November 30, 2006 postmark deadline is approaching for the Poetry Broadside Competition at www.IntimaPress.com. Entry forms and information is on the website now.
At Studio on the Square, NYC, check out these awesome upcoming workshops:
Introduction to Letterpress
Friday, 6:30-9:30PM, December 1
Get a taste of the elegant printing of the 15th century. Experience the fun & fundamentals of letterpress: the California job case, hand typesetting with moveable metal foundry type, the origins of spacing & leading, composition, lock-up, inking & impression on our Vandercook Uni III. A great introduction to printing beautiful impressions.
COPTIC BINDING
Saturday 10AM-4PM, December 2
This elegant binding sewn along the spine allows for multiple cover choices and flexibility in materials. In one day, you will bind a book with a leather cover and also create a wrapped enclosure in wood, to protect and house this beautiful open spine structure.
A BOOK IN A DAY: PRINTING WITHOUT A PRESS
Sunday, 10AM-4PM, December 3
Combine images & text and have fun learning to create a small book edition in one day. Even if you have never made an image before, you will be able to overcome those hesitations and do awesome work. You'll also be able to repeat everything at home with a very "green" and inexpensive set up.
ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS
Weekend Sat/Sun: 10AM-4PM, Dec 9 & 10
Formed from layers of silt million?s of years ago, slate?s natural shearing action has made it a perfect resource for many architectural uses. Using slate rock, fabricate an accordion and codex book structure. After you build and bind your sculptural book, you will fill-in the pages with narrative and pictoral content, altering the stone?s surface with scratching, painting, and collage.
A BOX IN A DAY
Saturday 10AM-4PM, December 16
Construct a box with a separate lid, covered with decorative paper, sized 4"x6" (or similar) for photos, books, jewelry, or personal objects. Learn the proper way to measure, cut, glue, and fold corners. Then customize your piece, as you play with new, fanciful additions to your enclosure.
Classes are limited to 4-6 students, so don't delay ? register at Studio on the Square. For more details, go to: www.StudioOnTheSq.com or call 917-412-4134 & reserve your place now.
