There are lots of places to go to see/connect with the world of the book in
those 2 cities:
Vienna:
- The National Library is in the Hofburg Palace and is exceptional not only
in terms of holdings but its architecture
- The University of Vienna, School of Applied Arts has a bookbinding program
(prof. Andrea Frankl), adjacent to the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) -- both
have book arts collections in their respective libraries, and the museum has
Wiener Werkstatte holdings that include bindings
- The School of Applied Arts (where Helmgard Holle is) has the paper
restoration labs
- Artist book sho/salon in the 7th district:
Salon für Kunstbuch
Mondscheingasse 11
Di-Fr 14-19h
There's lots more but that's a start.
Budapest:
- Outside of Budapest, in Szekesfehervar, is an amazing artist book
collection at the Istvan Kiraly Museum.
Contact curator: Kati Izinger <Izingerkati@xxxxxxxxx>
- There is an Association for Hungarian Book Artists,
Contact person: Ilona Kiss, Csalogany u. 40 (Kati Itzinger would have her
number, I can't find it at the moment).
Have fun!
