Reader’s Feast Booksellers invite you to hear
GERALDINE BROOKS on her latest work, “The People of the Book”
Geraldine Brooks is a Pulitzer prize winning author. Her latest work, “The
People of the Book”, revolves around an ancient Hebrew illuminated
manuscript. It traverses centuries and continents as the reader is taken
on a journey of discovery into the medieval world. Ms. Brooks will speak
at the State Library of Victoria as they prepare to open their landmark
exhibition: The Medieval Imagination: Illuminated manuscripts from
Cambridge, Australia, and New Zealand.

The Allan and Maria Myers PUBLIC LECTURE
Bestiary Images and the Psalter
Dr Christopher de Hamel FSA is a world expert on Medieval Illuminated
Manuscripts. He was for many years responsible for the manuscript sales at
Sotheby’s and he is the first Donnelley Fellow Librarian at Corpus Christi
College, Cambridge.
Dr de Hamel is in Melbourne for the coming exhibition The Medieval
Imagination: Illuminated Manuscripts from Cambridge, Australia and New
Zealand at the State Library of Victoria (28 March – 15 June 2008). In
this lecture Dr de Hamel will speak on the ways in which animals from the
Book of Beasts were used in the Psalter, the popular prayer book of the
Middle Ages.
