Food, drink and insects

My administrators asked me to find "hard core evidence" (literature
probably) confirming the fact that human food and drink residues draw
draw bugs that could be harmful to archival collections. The issue is:
allowing food and drink to be consumed on the same floor where archives
collections are stored.

I would appreciate supportive information.
