Deacidification

Helen Burgess has a comment relating to Janet Gertz's request on the DEZ
treatment. CCI is currently engaged in a project to evaluate the
relative performance of mass deacidification procedures---including
DEZ--and Helen is directing the project.

Helen notes that she has only observed one instance of barcode on a book
mass-deacidified with DEZ. She has not noted any bubbling on this
particular example,however, similar damage has been noted sometimes in
synthetic adhesive layers of tapes or self-adhesive jackets covered
books.
