Medium density fiberboard

We are about to start designing temporary show cases for an
exhibition that originates in Leeds, UK and then tours the States,
with Oklahoma, California and Tennessee as venues. We usually use MDF
for the interior walls of our cases, despite the associated problems
of gaseous emission. Can anybody tell me whether ZF MDF is an
acceptable material for case construction in the USA. Is it true
that if MDF is used in any part of the case, then it must be fire
retardant? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
