Do any readers of exlibris know the whereabouts of a copy
of the anti-theatre broadside described below? The description dates
circa 1871-1872:
"I recollect from my boyhood, a wonderful showbill, printed
nearly as large as a side of a modern newspaper, gotten up by some of our
citizens to put down Theaters. For a time, at least, it tended to cripple
them. This exciting Theater Bill, roused the people to such an extent,
that theater going was suspended; and as a consequence, the doors of those
fascinating resorts were closed for a time. I do not pretend to give the
exact words of that show bill. I read it in my boyhood days time and time
again. Having a pretty good memory, I learned it 'just so.'***I give the
gist of that remarkable and sensational Theater Royal bill."
"Samuel D. McCullough's Reminiscences of Lexington," THE REGISTER OF THE
KENTUCKY STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY, Frankfort, Kentucky, Vol. 27, No. 79,
January 1929, pp. 411-432. This is the printed text of a nineteenth-century
talk, and the words recalled of the broadside, are not, in fact, included
in the remaining transcription, but must have been given from memory or
from a separate piece of paper. Any information would be welcomed by
