Re: Barcoding in Special Collections



When plans were being made some years ago for barcoding books in all 8
libraries (mostly "on the fly," ie, as books were presented for check-out), we
simply decided that Special Collection books would not be included in the
program, since they don't "circulate" in the normal sense. This has presented
no problems.

The circulation control system (Sirsi) has now been linked to the on-line
catalog so users can determine if any book has been checked out before going
to the stacks. The circulation status for all Special Collections materials
(as well as for Reference and other non-circulating stuff) is simply given as
"Available for use in library only."
