Loyola's rare book collection was not barcoded with the rest of the
library when we went online with NOTIS in 1987, but all books cataloge d
or retro'd since then get a barcode attached to the acid-free Identi-
strip laid in each volume. About 2 inches of the strip appear above th e
text block, with call number typed on the recto, and the barcode
affixed to the verso, well clear of the book itself. If your rare boo k
collection is not marked in some similar manner, barcoding it in one
pass would be difficult.
