Removing Crayon Marks

Despite all the holier than thou comments by rare-book librarians, let
us just be honest: crayon is ugly. And no matter what state remove of those
marks creates, it will be unlike the original condition, but perhaps more
attractive than the crayolad condition.
I am not a conservator, and would not attempt to touch a book of this
kind. But I might suggest that you get hold of Debra Evitts, at the Pierpont
Morgan Library (e-mail address unknown), or a very intelligent and sympathetic
woman (not on e-mail) Betsy Palmer Eldridge, whose address is not in my
office, but who may be reached through the Canadian Bookbinders' and Book
Artists' Guild (CBBAG-pronounced as the vegetable), 35 McCaul Street, Suite
200, Toronto, CANADA M5T 1V7.
