Torches

I hope Bob Dawson means "torches" in the British sense (i.e.,
"flashlights.")  Goethe toured the private galleries of Rome by
torchlight (one of the best passages in his _Italian Journey_, but the
thought of flaming brands carried through the stacks of the Arsenal
boggles the imagination.  Germaine.
