Signiatures

At the risk of appearing to be one of those incompetent librarians
cataloguing rare book material, and having been passed this question
from our head of technical services, here goes....

We have recently loaded the MARC tapes of Wing andEvans microprint/
microforms materials...the records contain the 500 note information
for the original signiatures.

Where can we find information to "decode" these transcriptions:
A|p2|s B1 B2 C-K|p2|s L1 M-N|p2|s O1 P-R|p2|s S1 T-X|p2s Y1 (Y1
verso blank)

Thank you,
