Have a look at Philip Gaskell, "A New Introduction to Bibliography,"
pp. 328-335. The transcription you reproduced in your message is called
a collation formula. It looks a little odd to me, but that probably
has to do with MARC conventions for recording such formulae, conventions
with which I am unfamiliar. You might also consult books by Fredson Bowers
and R. errow on bibliographic description for more information.
B. McKerrow on bibliographic description for more information. I
only mention Gaskell in particular because that's the text I had in my
class on rare books, so I'm familiar with it.
Good luck!
