Theft of Science books and plates

To EXLIBRIS:
The following theft notice arrived on 11 November during a period when
I was out of the library:
From: Michaelle Biddle, Library Security Officer
              Olin Memorial Library
              Wesleyan University
              252 Church Street
              Middletown, Connecticut 06459-0108
              Fax: 203-344-7969 ext. 2129
"We would like to report the attached theft of plates and maps. If
you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch...
"On Thursday evening, September 28th, we discovered that the QE
monographs and the surveys had been systematically gone through by someone
or ones, possibly in search of illustrations or treatises of value in the
antique market. Other portions of the collections had been disturbed,
particularly the natural history monographs. A few Cutter geology books and
general science (exploration type) books that might have had hand-colored
engravings or other types of special illustrations were pulled out of their
place on the shelves upstairs. We believe that the perpetrator(s) were
prielope 5.
Please share this information with science librarians in particular.
