Does anyone on the list remember the approximate time of the discussion
about allowing (or not)access to materials to convicted book thieves?
I would like to drag these postings out of the archives for a paper I am
writing, but as far as I know, the only way to search EXLIBRIS's archives
is by date (month and year). I have been in touch with Mr. Everett
Wilkie, who contributed to the discussion, and he cannot pin down the
time either. We both think it was sometime last spring.
In my paper, I am specifically concerned with the legal alternatives of a
library
(or archive) that is faced with a known book thief who has done his/her time
or other penance and wants to use the library's collections again. I am
writing this for a class at the university of Maryland called the Archivist,
the Librarian and the Law which is taught by Dr. Frank Burke. If anyone
would like to contribute an experience they have had or any other relevant
information, I would be most appreciative!
If Charles Merrill Mount walked into your library and requested something,
what would your reaction be?
Thanks!
