Grolier Club Exhibition

The Grolier Club is presently having an exhibition of books, prints and
manuscripts from the Daniel Berkeley Updike Collection of Books on Printing
at the Providence Public Library. The exhibition contains many rare type
specimen books and broadsides as well as printers' manuals, books on censor-
ship, the graphic arts, etc. Also on display are some interesting engraved
portraits of printers, type founders and booksellers. The exhibition is a
slightly enlarged version of the exhibition at the Providence Public Library
that was held during the meeting of the American Printing History Association
last October. For the exhibition at the Grolier Club a few items were added
both from the PPL and the library of the Grolier Club. The exhibition will
remain until May 7th and can be viewed from Tuesday through Saturday from 10
A.M. until 5 P.M. The address is 47 E. 60th St. (between Madison and Park
Avenues), New York. The exhibition is the last one done by Kimball Higgs
before he left the Grolier Club, and he did a beautiful job. Kimball is now
Assistant Vice President, Department of Books and Manuscripts, Sotheby's, New
York. Congratulations, Kimball, from Phil Weimerskirch, Providence Public
Library. <PHILWH@dsl.rhilinet.gov>
