In response to Everett Wilkie's mention of OCLC access via the internet, let
me say that Lehigh has been a test site for this service for the past several
months. I think it is quite successful, particularly for those who presently
have dial access, as I did. With acess via internet, once you make the
connection, which is very fast, you have the same kind of responsed as with a
dedicated line. I believe it is also cheaper than a dedicated line. I should
also mention that it's possible to use the internet to upload and download
records with MicroEnhancer. Our systems office has also, for the past year or
so, been FTPing our completed catalog records back via the internet, for
uploading into our OPAC. This is in lieu of receiving tapes in the mail. And
of course it's a lot faster. You have the week's work on Friday afternoon.
