Waldemar Fries' book, _The Double Elephant Folio_ (Chicago: ALA,
1973), is still the basic census and survey of Audubon's _Birds of
America_. But this has been updated by Susanne M. Low for the Audubon
Archives of the American Museum of Natural History. Her data with
regard to existing copies, copies broken up, copies vanished,
destroyed, damaged, stolen, etc. was condensed and published by Ms.
Low as _Catalogue of the New Birds of America Section of the Audubon
Archives, Department of Ornithology, American Museum of Natural
History, New York City_ in January 1991. We purchased a copy from Ms.
Low in March of that year. If she's still at the same address, one
may write to her at: 27029 Miles River Road, Rte. 1, Box 210, Easton,
MD 21601.
