I have recently agreed to edit at least on issue of POPULAR CULTURE IN
LIBRARIES (Haworth Press) and perhaps to edit or co-edit some additional issues
of that journal. In the issue I will be editing, I plan to deal specifically
with postcards as they are collected by libraries and as they are used in
scholarly research. I have a long lead-time as articles will not be due to me
until sometime after January 1, 1995. At this point I am interested in locating
people who may be interested in contributing an article to that issue. I am
also interested in identify and locating articles and books that use postcards
as a key element in their presentation of a subject. I already know, for
of BORDER FURY, which describes the early twentieth century American-Mexican
border war in terms of postcards, and of LEBANON COUNTY: A POSTCARD HISTORY,
which presents the history of that Pennsylvania county through postcard images.
I would also like to be able to have one or more descriptions of library
collections of postcards that describe the collection, why it was established,
and how it is used. I am very open to any and all ideas of how this subject can
be approached and would welcome unusual ideas and suggestions.
Thanks. I look forward to hearing from those of you on the POSTCARD, SHARP,
ARCHIVES, and EXLIBRIS lists. But if you know of others who know something
about postcards and may be interested in contributing, please forward this
note.
I have a keen personal interest in postcards as I have a collection of over
25,000 postcards of libraries and a much smaller collection of postcards that
depict books and reading. I'm always looking for new cards for either
collection so, if in the course of your travels, you come across either, please
send them to me! Thanks.
