Mag mutilation, N. Baker, etc.

1. I'm sorry that Baker has tantrumed on the list and tarnished his
reputation. I'm in the middle of his article and while I disagree with his
conclusions, I'm fascinated by reading intelligent description of authority
control in Harold Ross's magazine. Leave it to NB, of course, to come up
with *all* of the Tschaikovsky variations.

The reactions on autocat and pacs-l to Baker are overboard; why on earth
should anyone try to write intelligently about librarianship if this kind of
whinging is what results.

2. Sue, thanks for forwarding NB's comments; does he have an address you
could forward to me?

3. Similarly on the cake-clipping girl; so what, folks? this kind of
undergraduate stuff goes on all the time. We just need to do our job and
prosecute, prosecute, prosecute. Taking the undergraduate paper seriously is
a diversion from useful activity. --pg
