The Book Arts Press announces the publication of a new and
greatly expanded edition of G. Thomas Tanselle's INTRODUCTION TO
BIBLIOGRAPHY: SEMINAR SYLLABUS, the syllabus and reading list for
the annual course Tanselle teaches at Columbia University. The
new edition (published last month) is 194 pages long, (69 pages
longer than the 1991 version we distributed in 1992, and 93 pages
longer than the 1990 version we distributed in 1991).
Tanselle's syllabus supplies a brief list of recommended
readings for various course topics. It is divided into the
following chapters: Bibliography as a Field of Knowledge,
Bibliographical Reference Works and Journals, Introduction to
Printing and Publishing History, Introduction to Descriptive
Bibliography, Paper, Typography and Ink, Illustration, Binding,
and Introduction to Analytical Bibliography. Each chapter is
further subdivided, eg:
