Care of Old Periodicals and Insurance?

Hi,

I recieved an email from Paul Hurley <hurleyp@synapse.net> with some
questions the members of this list should be able to anwser.


Paul Hurley inherited a number of bound editions of 19th century Scientific
American and he had a couple of questions which are not in my field of
expertise. 

2)  I am concerned about the care and handling of these books.  What would
you recommend for proper care?
3)  Should I take any special measures regarding insurance for these books?
They have been in my family for some time.
