Re: Duplicate Sales

Dear Ex-Librians,

I am something of a "lurker" on Ex-Libris, not being a special collections
librarian. But as a collector of books about oriental rugs, I must admit to
being fascinated by this thread on duplicate sales.

Really good collections on this fairly arcane subject are rare, and I have
been thinking about donating mine to a musuem with a solid textile
collection. This group's comments have been enlightening. While it never
occurred to me that I could insist on the collection's remaining intact, it
has been instructive to learn that if I wanted to do that I should consider
endowing it with necessary funds to give the institution an added incentive.

And, even though I know it's a violation of the FAQ, I just can't help
myself....
Please forgive my yielding to temptation this once.

Should any of you folks be thinking of deaccessioning any of those dusty, old
oriental rug books that no one looks at, why not drop me a note? You may do
so secure in the knowledge that they will eventually return to a research
institution, none the worse for wear and well-loved in the meantime.

Cordially,

Jerry Silverman
