Re: Manuscript copyright

I afraid that Mr. Katz mistunderstood on several issues and perhaps
deliberately so. With reference to the state of the law in Ontario
re:law suits, it applies to all suits. I merely made the observation
which has often been reiterated in the popular as a peculiarity. Mr.
Katz seems to have introduced a red herring however as the question of
attribution and proper references to sources in the notes was not
raised in the original discussion. As far as I was concerned I wsa
replying to what was provided in the messages. Mr. Katz's contentions
are contumacious in nature. I have no idea of what Mr. Katz is doing
but we archive everything said so, I have no concerns about what
either of us say. I actually based my replies on several well known
cases at our university: one based upon a sexual harrassment case,
another based upon case of libel and misconduct by a faculty member
which led to a graduate student being unjustly denied renewal of the
program for he next year and a few cases of wrongful dismissals and
tenure committee misconduct. One case involved slanderous remarks
about a persons religion and the other dealt with a person whose
publications departed from the strict subject of her thesis. Aa I
often give evaluations for government funded projects and references
for tenure promotions (all preserved in archives which can be
consulted with permission). In his inuendo and speculations about my
motives Mr. Katz is certainly surpasssing netiquette and in
insinuating that I am personally concerned (although he did not say
whether is was as a victim or perpetrator) with the issue. It
certainly is not a major problem for me with twenty or more pages of
publication and I suppose if necessary we could throw in letters from
students whose careers I have advanced over the years. I am puzzled by
Mr. Katz whom I do not know nor wish to know. My contributions are
terminated in this discussion.
