Dear Mr. Wilkie:
As they say, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, and your
McCarthy-like innuendo ("if they have a virus"), is insufferable. Bibliofind
does not have a virus and we never said that it did. (There are many ways in
which a computer site can be attacked.)
We said only that our system has been under attack. It would have
been appropriate for you to have contacted me before issuing your "stay
away" message, in order to confirm - or otherwise - the appropriateness of
your advice to your list.
You and the thousands who use Bibliofind can be certain that we
would immediately have closed down Bibliofind if we had any reason to
believe that our system could damage our users' computers as a result of
this situation.
There is no danger of anyone contacting anything other than useful
information when they use Bibliofind.
I demand an immediate retraction and apology, and must tell you
unequivocally that your failure to do so will lead us to pursue, with our
customary energy, all available remedies in law against you and your
institutional employer.
Yours sincerely
Michael I. Selzer, Ph.D.
