Book collectiong symposium

PLEASE RESPOND TO THE ADDRESSES BELOW AND NOT TO THE LIST

The English Department and the Cushing Memorial Library (formerly the
Special Collections, Manuscripts, and Archives Department) at Texas
A&M University are planning a symposium entitled "Book Collecting and
Scholarship," tentatively scheduled for the Fall of 1998. Potential
topics include sessions or panels on collecting from the bookseller's
perspective, scholars as book collectors, the history of collecting
and the lives of great collectors, financial, tax, and investment
considerations for collectors, forgeries and the collector, private
versus institutional collecting, as well as other subjects. As the
title of the symposium and the aforementioned topics indicate, the
focus is strictly on the collecting of books and closely related
materials (manuscripts, literary artifacts, etc.). The organizers are
interested in hearing suggestions and ideas for the symposium as well
as from those who might be interested in contributing a paper or
organizing a session.
