American Literary Essays and Scholarship 1788-1900
The Brick Row Book Shop is pleased to offer a collection of 260 books of
18th & 19th century American literary essays and scholarship, which is for
sale as a collection. The parameters are original works of literary
scholarship and literary essays by American authors as published in book
form from the late 18th century to the end of the 19th century. The
collection was formed with the idea that it would be inclusive of all
examples of the genre: to record where unrecorded, to highlight the obscure
along with the obvious and thus document in the fullest manner possible
American literary criticism and scholarship as it developed along with
American fiction and poetry in the 19th century.
The catalogue of the collection is divided into three sections:
1) chronologically arranged, annotated descriptions of each title; 2) a
short title list arranged alphabetically by author; and 3) a short title
list of known works which we think fit into this collection, but for which
we could not locate copies.
The catalogue, with full descriptions, may be viewed on our web page
<http://www.brickrow.com/LitCrit.html>, or we will gladly send out printed
copies on request.
