Hello,
I recently acquired a two-volume set by Giovanni Giustino Ciampini, =
entitled (with elisions) "Vetera monimenta in quibus praecipua . . . =
musiva opera . . . illustrantur", published in Rome in two volumes, the =
first in 1690 and the second in 1699. As an art historian I recognize =
of course the value of these volumes as records of Early Christian art =
and architecture and particularly of mosaic, but I am having difficulty =
locating other copies for sale in order to assign a value to this set =
aside from my cost. They are in the original vellum bindings, which are =
in excellent condition for the age, not yet collated but appearing to be =
complete, with some damage to the frontispiece engravings in each volume =
but with each of the other 80-odd engraved illustrations being in very =
good condition, some I would say in near-fine condition. I would =
appreciate any assistance that any members of Ex Libris can offer to =
help me determine the rarity and value of these volumes. As I do not =
have access to any of the major on-line databases, I would especially =
appreciate hearing from those who can access such information. Thanks !
