don't forget my favorite resource: the Web! In just a few minutes I
discovered a list serv for the discussion of iron-gall ink! 

check it out:

It is part of the Iron Gall Ink Corrosion Website. Somebody there HAS to be
able to answer this question.  http://www.knaw.nl/ecpa/ink/index.html

A discussion list has been established simultaneously with the website to
exchange
ideas about iron gall ink. The name of the list is INKCORROSION-L. It
provides a
platform for collection keepers, researchers, conservators, and other
interested
parties to exchange ideas, ask questions and inform each other on new
developments.
Upcoming workshops and symposia, related to iron gall ink will also be
posted here.
There are no restrictions to membership.
