How was the Vatican protecting manuscripts in the reading room before they
had air conditioning? Obviously they had survived the centuries with out it,
but in recent decades I thought most institutions had upgraded.

Subject: BAV MANUSCRIPT READING ROOM
Dear List Members,
It may be of some value for the members and their colleagues to know
that
the Manuscript Reading Room of the Vatican Library will be CLOSED from 3 to
7 April -- so that air conditioning can be installed. It will not be
possible to have access to any manuscripts during that period.
