I agree with Michael. While many of us took exception to both the tone and
content of Everett's missive, we should wait for a fuller explanation on his
part before jumping to conclusions.

Look, what on earth is a poll going to achieve, except to make a few
list members fruitlessly happier until they get sadder again? We'll be
no wiser until the list owner gives us his comments: *then* it'll be
time enough to indulge in speculation, name-calling and so on. The list
isn't a free, autonomous group: it depends on a server to distribute it
and an owner to maintain it.
I really think that the best course now is just to carry on tacitly
sending messages *as before*, until Everett Wilkie explains his
decision.
