Query: Beaumarchais/Figaro variant issue

Dear Colleagues,

I am trying to catalogue a most unusual item.

It seems to be a first edition of Beaumarchais' "La Folle
Journee, ou le Mariage de Figaro." Indeed, it follows the
descriptions in Tchemerzine (II, 14) and Cordier (128).

But there are two discrepancies. First, this copy has
only 118 pp of text, exactly half the number prescribed by
Cordier. Yet the text seems complete, and the word "fin"
appears at the end, after the song. Second, the printer's
mark is different from the one shown in Tchemerzine. In this
copy, the printer's mark looks like a Roman bust in silhouette,
wearing a crown of laurel and surrounded by a ring and a wreath.

Could anyone shed any light on this oddity?

Best,

Bill Cole
