Re: MODERATOR--Commercial activitiy (better read this one)

I was going to resist adding one more useless message to the list, but I
can't help sharing these thoughts...

1. Is the list really so clogged with catalogue announcements that it has
become a problem? I have subscribed to ExLibris for a couple of years and
haven't noticed such an increase in such postings that I've had to throw my
hands up in the air. Seems to me it gets more clogged with pointless
debates like this (pointless, I think, untl Mr. Wilkie explains his
actions).

2. Good luck defining "commercial activity." As several have pointed out,
corporate affiliations in e-mail signatures might be construed as such, and
anyone who posts a query about research they are doing--research that might
ultimately be published for financial gain--might also crossing the line.

3. When I subscribed to ExLibris, I received a welcoming message that
said, "Please note that it is presently possible for anybody to determine
that you are signed up to the list through the use of the "REVIEW EXLIBRIS"
command, which returns the email address and name of each subscriber."
Before I post another catalogue announcement, I'll get everyone's e-mail
address, create a private file, and after I'm banned from the list I'll
send them announcements anyway. Brave new world!

Cheers,
