1. "very strange Grove Press imprint" - why are people guessing about
this when you can call up the publisher, Barney Rosset and ask him? I
did.
2. commercial activity ban - I will assume that this comes from the
Listserver since in the past my emails directly to the Moderator have
been answered in a most congenial fashion. I think we all agree that a
notice from a rare book librarian about a great new reference they
found, with a link to more information, is appreciated, while an all
out add from the publisher, complete with endorsements and the price
is not. I doubt that there has been a posting to this group that has
not been in some way commercial, even unintentionally. The answer to a
bibliographic question could enhance the value of a particular book.
An answer by an expert could enhance their prestige. If the Listserver
insists on a strict commercial ban, then all posts would have to be
vetted by the moderator. If the caveat is that people speaking on
behalf of certified tax-exempt organizations can post anything, then
we will have a two tier membership, those who can post whatever they
want, and those who have to be vetted. I think that would diminish the
spontaneity of the list, and its usefulness.
3. To the person who wants to get off the list - apparently all you
have to do is make a long commercial post [sorry about that - it was
too delicious to pass up]
If you don't hear from me again you will know that I have been exiled.
