Dear All,
Further John's "I haven't even been officially informed of being banned,"
this is at the crux of the problem on ExLibris: EvWilkie does what he wants,
when he wants, and doesn't explain what his done or ever apologize for
making a mistake. To my knowledge (more than a few years on ExLibris), he
has never let anyone know that he has banned them from posting to the list.
This statement is based on personal experience and as the one who brought
the wrath of Everett down on the entire bookselling community, from
communications from others who had been cast out of the community and who
wrote to me privately.
While the ExLibris members are concentrating on the question of commercial
postings, Ev has successfully turned their attention from the main question:
Unilateral censorship with no recourse. Given the importance of censorship
to librarians and booksellers and readers I am befuddled that my original
posting that raised the question of Ev's censorship, and then caused the
banning of posting of announcements of catalogues, has just languished.
Be that as it may, there is much activity in the library world seeking a
satisfactory solution.
Sincerely,
David Szewczyk (elzevir@prbm.com)
